After having obtained a degree in Sculpture at the Beaux Arts school in Versailles (France), I decided to start painting in 1999. In 2004, I had the opportunity to exhibit my art for the first time which was the reflection of my encounters and my relationships throughout the same year. Those were my earliest portraits of strangers and friends.
My work focuses on the figurative and is primarily directed at portraits. It is my stamping ground. I am fascinated by the singularity of individuals which I paint as faithfully as possible. I am mostly looking for simplicity—the representation of people as they recognize themselves through their figure, gesture and expressions. The background is often abstract to mainly focus on the portrait itself. Contrasts let the shapes appear. The outline sharpens. The light glimpses through the eyes. The subject comes to life.
I am passionate about cinema dating from the 80's and 90's, therefore the idea of realising portraits of the actors from my favourite characters of my favourite movies came naturally. It is a way for me to continue the connection I have with the movies of my childhood.
